The villa

Villa Bellamare sits directly above the sea, where the coastline opens out and the horizon feels endlessly wide. Arriving at the property, the sense of space is immediate. The villa unfolds across a single level, designed to flow naturally between indoors and out, with the sea always present in the background.

The heart of the villa is the open living area, where generous windows frame the pool and the water beyond. An open air kitchen anchors the space, allowing meals to be prepared while remaining part of the conversation, while the lounge area offers a calm retreat during the warmest hours of the day. Light moves freely through the villa, reflecting off pale surfaces and drawing the eye outward.

Five independent double bedrooms are arranged along an open air walkway, each accessed separately and each with its own private bathroom and patio. This layout works beautifully for families or groups travelling together, offering privacy alongside shared spaces. Mornings begin with doors opening onto fresh air, evenings end with quiet moments outdoors under the stars.

From the living area, a pergola stretches out, shaded and welcoming, with a long dining table and seating area set up for lingering lunches and relaxed evenings. Beyond, a stone path leads first to the swimming pool, perfectly positioned for uninterrupted sea views, and then onwards to the gate at the edge of the cliff.

While the sea directly below is not accessible for swimming due to the height of the cliffs, a small cove lies just 150 metres away, reached via a staircase carved into the rock. It offers a more sheltered spot for a dip, with clear water and a sense of discovery.

Villa Bellamare is located along a striking stretch of Sicily’s southeastern coastline, where rugged cliffs meet open sea and the landscape feels refreshingly unspoilt. The area offers a quieter alternative to Sicily’s busier resort towns, while still placing cultural highlights, beaches and restaurants within easy reach.

Just below the villa, the coastline is dramatic and rocky, ideal for coastal walks and sunset views. A short walk leads to a small cove accessed by a staircase carved into the rock, offering a more intimate swimming spot with clear waters and a sense of seclusion. Sandy beaches can be found a short drive away, including Contrada Gallina, where long stretches of sand are backed by dunes and shallow waters.

The nearby town of Avola provides everyday amenities such as supermarkets, cafés and local bakeries, as well as a lively atmosphere in the evenings. Avola is also known for its almonds and Nero d’Avola wine, both deeply rooted in the region’s agricultural heritage.

Further along the coast, Noto stands as one of Sicily’s most celebrated Baroque towns. Its honey coloured streets, grand churches and open piazzas offer a striking contrast to the raw beauty of the shoreline. Siracusa, with its ancient Greek theatre and the historic island of Ortigia, adds another layer of history, blending classical ruins with vibrant street life and waterfront dining.

The surrounding countryside is shaped by citrus groves, vineyards and olive trees, while coastal roads offer scenic drives punctuated by viewpoints and small fishing villages. Restaurants in the area focus on fresh seafood and seasonal produce, often in simple settings that allow the food and views to take centre stage.
