The villa

Step through the entrance and into a large hall warmed by a fireplace, leading to a series of beautifully arranged reception rooms. Villa Salone Letterario is located just outside Perugia, in the heart of Umbria, a region often referred to as Italy’s “green heart” for its rolling hills, olive groves and medieval hilltop towns. The villa sits within a peaceful rural estate surrounded by vineyards and cultivated fields, offering privacy while remaining well connected to local amenities. 

A grocery shop is just 1km away, ideal for fresh bread and daily essentials, while the historic city of Perugia is only 17km from the property. Perugia is known for its impressive Etruscan walls, Renaissance palaces and lively piazzas. Wander along Corso Vannucci, visit the National Gallery of Umbria or enjoy an espresso overlooking the Umbrian valley. The city is also famous for its chocolate production and hosts the annual Eurochocolate festival. 

Assisi, 35km away, is one of Italy’s most important pilgrimage sites and home to the Basilica of Saint Francis, with its remarkable frescoes. Lake Trasimeno (32km) offers boat trips to its islands, lakeside beaches, watersports and relaxed waterfront restaurants serving freshly caught fish. Golf enthusiasts will find courses within easy driving distance, while walkers and cyclists can explore scenic country roads and woodland trails nearby. 

For day trips further afield, Chiusi, Montepulciano and Siena in southern Tuscany are all within reach, offering wine tastings, historic architecture and lively weekly markets. Orvieto’s dramatic cathedral and cliff - top setting make another rewarding excursion. 

Umbria is known for its truffles, olive oil and robust red wines, and the surrounding countryside offers opportunities to sample regional produce directly from local estates. The villa’s rural setting provides an authentic glimpse into central Italian life, where agriculture, history and tradition intertwine.
