The villa

Villa Heranca offers a distinctive way to experience Portugal’s Douro Valley, combining contemporary architecture with the heritage of a working organic wine and olive estate. Set across approximately 30 hectares in the UNESCO - listed Alto Douro Wine Region, the villa looks across vineyard - covered slopes towards the Douro River and surrounding mountains.

Designed for up to eight guests, Villa Heranca has four individually styled en - suite bedrooms, where natural materials and regional craftsmanship sit alongside contemporary furnishings and carefully selected art. The open - plan living and dining spaces make the most of the remarkable setting, while private balconies provide further opportunities to enjoy the landscape.

Outside, the 14 - metre heated saltwater infinity pool is a highlight, with overflow edges on all four sides and a shallow lounging area for cooling off in the Portuguese sunshine. A sun deck, outdoor dining space, landscaped gardens and stone viewing terrace offer plenty of room to spread out.

Beyond the villa, vineyards, olive groves, orchards and native woodland form part of daily estate life. Guests can also request opportunities to join selected seasonal activities, offering a closer connection to the traditions, produce and culture of the Douro.

Villa Heranca sits in the Cima Corgo sub - region of the Douro Valley, between Pinhão and Peso da Régua, surrounded by the terraced vineyards, olive groves and rolling hills that define this UNESCO World Heritage landscape. The setting places guests at the heart of one of Portugal’s most celebrated wine regions, where centuries of viticulture continue to shape both the scenery and local way of life.

Days out can centre around visits to local wine estates, tastings and trips along the Douro River, while the region’s wine - producing villages offer another insight into its food, architecture and traditions. Pinhão, considered the geographical centre of the Douro wine region, is particularly worth exploring for its riverside setting and historic railway station, decorated with traditional azulejo tile panels.
