In the idyllic Gers countryside, Les Merigoux is a superbly restored farmhouse in an elevated and private setting within four acres of gardens with glorious views. Whether you’re gathering beside the wildflower meadow for a game of boules or lingering by the pool as evening nears, Les Merigoux promises a slow pace of life so typical of Gascony.

Inside, timber - beamed ceilings, soft stone tones and farmhouse textures lend warmth to the open - plan living and dining space, a beautiful room for gathering with family and friends. The kitchen, with its central island and modern appliances, invites leisurely breakfasts and convivial evenings alike, while the separate TV lounge and study (with lovely vistas) offer moments of quiet retreat.

Upstairs, four pretty bedrooms sleep up to 10 guests, including two en - suite shower rooms alongside a spacious family bathroom. We especially love the charming four - poster bedroom that feels like a private hideaway. All four bedrooms feature king or queen - size double beds, two with additional single beds.

Days unfold at your own rhythm. Start with a morning coffee on the side terrace, soak up the surrounding views (with rotating summer sunflowers) or enjoy a few lengths in the private heated pool before gathering for lunch in the shaded dining area. The large games/fitness barn provides entertainment whatever the weather, with table tennis, darts and table football alongside a punch - bag and rowing machine for the energetic. Evenings might be spent under the stars around the fire - pit, the scent of local white garlic and grilled delights drifting through the warm air.

Perfectly placed for exploring Gascony, Les Merigoux lies just 5km from the bastide village of Saint - Clar, where a bakery, weekly market and summer festivals capture the charm of everyday rural French life. Within easy reach are historic Lectoure, Fleurance and Sarrant, as well as vibrant Auch and Agen, each offering a deeper taste of the region’s rich heritage and culinary delights.

In the heart of the Lomagne countryside near Mauroux, Les Merigoux offers an idyllic escape in the unspoilt Gers region of south - west France. Surrounded by rolling fields with corn and sunflowers on rotation, this historic home is set in an elevated position with glorious views and no immediate neighbours. Ideally located between Auch (40km) and Agen (48km), it makes the perfect base for exploring the highlights of Gascony.

Just 5km away, the attractive bastide town of Saint - Clar is famous for its sweet white garlic. Here you’ll find essential amenities including café - bars, restaurants, a butcher, bakery, pharmacy, post office and a small market twice weekly. There’s also a supermarket and petrol station just outside the village, as well as electric bike hire, tennis courts (bookable at the newsagent) and two charming museums, Maison de l’Ail (6.7km) and Musée de l'école Publique (5km). In summer, look out for lively flea markets and local fêtes that fill the village square with music and colour. For family fun, the Base de Loisirs near Saint - Clar is a hit with all ages, offering a lakeside beach with seasonal activities such as slides, paddle boarding and a small animal park.

A little further afield, Lectoure (19km), a beautifully preserved medieval town perched on a hilltop, is full of charm with its stone ramparts, thermal spa, summer night markets and colourful Friday morning market. Fleurance (16km) is another popular bastide town dating back to the 13th century with pretty arcades and a wonderful Tuesday morning market. Local specialities at markets include white garlic, melons, prunes and a range of poultry products.

Guests keen to explore more of the region’s characterful heritage won’t want to miss Sarrant (25km), officially one of France’s ‘ Plus Beaux Villages ’, or the enchanting trio of Fourcès, Montréal and Larressingle - each offering characterful architecture and all reachable within an hour. For an easy day trip, head to the vibrant towns of Agen (48km), home to a fantastic water and theme park, or Auch (40km), with its cathedral and winding medieval streets.
